Week of 7th August - 15th August 2004

  • Confessions - Saturday 11:15 - 12 noon. Also after 7pm Mass and of course on request.
  • Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour - Wednesday at 7:30 pm. I do encourage you all to come and honour Our Lady - our most Blessed Mother.
  • The Sanctuary Lamp will burn this week for a Private Intention. Please place your requests for Masses and the Sanctuary Lamp as soon as possible.
  • Graveyard First section will be turfed in the next four weeks. All sides will be removed and recycled as edging along the paths.
  • Flower Arranging - 1.30pm Wednesday in the Parish Centre. The subject is : A Landscape
  • Tea Dance: Monday 2 August
  • Parish Centre: Keep Fit, Line Dancing, Bingo. Please come and use your Centre
  • Parish Lottery: Why not join? £5 per month, payable by subscription in envelopes provided or by Direct Debit/Standing Order to Our Lady Parish Lottery A/c; Number 42596008 Bank Sort Code 40-29-08. Next draw is on 29th August.
  • Walsingham Pilgrimage - There is one place available at a price of £106 Contact Pam Hughes or Fr Reynolds.
  • Youth 2000 Prayer Festival 2004 26 - 30 August in Walsingham. Join 1000's of other young catholics living their faith and having fun. Sponsorship available. See Fr Reynolds.
  • Days of Recollection at the Don Orione House of Prayer, Upholland on Sunday 5 September and Saturday 25 September. These days are for all, especially Eucharistic Ministers and Readers and others in the parish. Spend a quiet day in peace to renew your inner self among the rolling fields of Lancashire. 10am - 5pm. £5. Please bring a packed lunch. Sign up at the back of church.
  • Church Windows At last the windows in the front of the church have been replaced. Most of the damage was done by the storm of 20 March 2004. The cost will be £4755.81, 80% of which is covered by insurance.
  • Tea Dance Monday 2 August.
  • Housebound Parishioners may be interested to know that Mass is broadcasted at 10am on Sunday mornings from Athlone on 252KHz on Long Wave radio. If you know anyone who may be interested, please tell them.
  • Parish Centre Keep Fit, Line Dancing, Bingo. Please come and use your Centre
  • Festival of Flowers to be held at St Anne and Blessed Dominic, Sutton, St Helens 26 - 29 August. Admission free. Programme £1. Leaflet at the back of church.
  • Annual Pilgrimage to the Holy Hand St Oswald and St Edmund Arrowsmith Church, Sunday 29 August. Mass at 4pm.Preacher is the Rt Rev Thomas Williams, Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool.
  • Our Lady, Queen of Peace. An evening Mass and talk by Fr Ljubo Kurtovic from the parish of St James, Medjugorje on Wednesday 1 September at St Oswald's Church, Liverpool. Evening begins with Rosary at 7.00 with Mass at 7.30pm.
  • When making your will, please remember Our Lady's Restoration Fund.

Feastdays
9th August - St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Edith Stein was born at Breslau, Poland in 1891, the youngest of seven children of a rich Jewish family. She converted to Catholicism in 1922 and entered the Carmel convent in 1933. Arrested by the Nazis, she was sent with her sister Rosa to Auschwitz in 1942 where she was gassed. She is co-patroness of Europe.

14th August - St Maximillian Mary Kolbe His life was built on a vigorous devotion to Our Blessed Lady and a determination to use every modern means to win the world for Christ. His act of volunteering to die for another in Auschwitz is justly well-known.
